Who is she? 

Avika Gor is the youngest newsmaker on our list. Viewers of Colors will know her as the feisty Roli from Sasural Simar Ka, who dons sarees and her difficult role with equal ease.

1 year, many avatars

Well, Avika has been in the public eye since the age of 11 when she started playing the young Anandi in Colors’ first show Balika Vadhu. But 2013 has also seen Avika be in the news constantly as Roli. First, Avika’s kidnapping and supposed death (in the show, of course) created waves in the TV industry.

Then, she reinvented herself by playing the rustic Jhumki, Roli’s doppelganger who came to the Bharadwaj family’s rescue. This change from the sanskaari bahu to the fast talking street artist was loved by all, and Jhumki was missed after her exit from the show. Roli also took on the avatars of a Sikh electrician and a confident businesswoman Sonia Oberoi, both roles that were polar opposite, but just as efficiently played by Avika. 

Avika also appeared on the show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ as Roli, where she showed her funny side and had a great laugh with Kapil.

Apart from ruling hearts as one half of the much loved RoSid (Roli and Siddhant) on TV screens, Avika also took a leap to the big screen by playing the female lead in the Telugu film ‘Uyyala Jampala’. The film, which stars Avika as a fun loving and emotional 17 year old girl, has received positive reviews, which is great news for Avika’s first film as a lead.

2013 was also important because Avika came one step closer to her fans by joining the world of Twitter. Avika, who already had a blog, took to the micro-blogging site recently, and has been keeping her fans updated by tweeting and posting pictures regularly.

Avika’s remarkable journey

Avika is one of TV’s youngest superstars and has never been out of the audience’s minds in the last 5 years. A young Avika was chosen to play a child bride in the show Balika Vadhu, and her brilliant portrayal of Jagya’s beendni made her the favourite bahu of the nation.

Anandi’s story not only made headlines, but also inspired a lot of young women to take their fate in their hands. Avika has swept many awards at a young age, with 11 awards under her belt, including a Rajiv Gandhi award for Best Child Artiste.

Pretty soon, Avika was being seen on the big screen as a child artiste in movies like Tezz, Paathshaala and Morning Walk.

What does the future hold for Avika 

Avika is right on track with her role as Roli in Sasural Simar Ka, and has many more (on-screen) challenges as the Bharadwaj bahu. Avika also has a lot of offers for films, but is planning to stick to her roots by also being a part of television. So fear not, it’s more television and films for Avika in 2014!
